Daily Practice is delighted and grateful that Gvantsa Jgushia and Samuel Mackiewicz have accepted the invitation to compose an exhibition at Daily Practice, which, being in a social housing apartment, inherits the domestic.

As a starting point for Your Text Jgushia and Mackiewicz have worked with the placeholder concept: A perimeter waiting for a definite and personalized text or image. All works in this exhibition seem to relate to this concept in all its possible connotations, sometimes to a periphery almost out of sight: there are subtle traces of margin outlines (Samuel Mackiewicz, quasipot , 2024), the use of existing window frames on the adapted wall – dividing what used to be a single bedroom (Gvantsa Jgushia, Dolly In Series, 2024), for example, a foam plate continuously shifting its bounds due to shampoo that was added to a fountain (Gvantsa Jgushia, The Soap Mandible, 2024) or the mass of what could be a light switch (Samuel Mackiewicz, Bonnet (Barn Star), 2024). Utilized materials relate to the everyday; These transform a house, a life: a print on canvas ordered online, wood stain, MDF, plastic for cosplay. This way Your Text will evoke, inside a home, a parallel set with propped objects and devices, things easily reproducible, rearrangeable, and interpretable.:
A play, a wordplay, an unfinished script, or merely a suggestion.
On December 1st the exhibition was complemented with the experiment reading ‘Your Text’ for which Gvantsa Jgushia and Samuel Mackiewicz invited artists Sam Holzberg and Mara Wohnaas to join.

Gvantsa Jgushia (b.1999, Zugdidi, Georgia) is a visual artist and a writer, primarily engaged with installation, sculpture, drawing, AV, and text-based work. Surfaces are critical in her making, often derivative of existing perimeters, ones experienced, some that host. Informed with formal principles of stage design, her work often translates into multi-layered installations. She completed her BA in Fine Art, VA[A]DS, Free University, Tbilisi.

Samuel Mackiewicz (b.1997, USA) pursued his BA in art studies at institutions in New York and Paris. “My interest lies in replicating a module tiller, in its actual sense or emotional themes, not in a direction to take on the wheel, but to just have a handle in a tiller’s ‘as is’ form. Employed module elements have a practicality in that they give permission to a peripheral user to see and arrive at a less stock scenery.”

Jgushia and Mackiewicz were both residents at the two-year post-graduate program De Ateliers, Amsterdam between 2023-2024 and currently live and work between IJmuiden and Amsterdam. Since completing De Ateliers they have started to collaborate on exhibitions, apart from their own. Thinking about works and practices developed in close proximity, both artists’ skeptical awareness of the practicalities of duo-ship has led them to question the tested modes of such practice.
